Developer of iGLOBE(Insulin+Lactate+Oxygen+ Beta-hydroxybutyrate LifeStrip)Sunday, 3 October 20215pm PDT (12am GMT)Join us: ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87521158335 YouTube LiveStream: https://www.youtube.com/c/LOOPandLEARN
University of California Irvine's Samueli School biomedical engineering professor Elliot Botvinick and School of Physical Sciences chemistry professor Gregory Weiss have won a three-year, $3.5 million grant from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to further the development of an innovative continuous-use monitor for those with type 1 diabetes.
The first-of-its-kind device will simultaneously measure insulin, glucose, lactate, oxygen, and the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate with a single probe inserted just beneath the skin.
Called iGLOBE (Insulin + Glucose + Lactate + Oxygen + Beta-Hydroxybutyrate) LifeStrip, the monitor utilizes light and chemistry to provide sensing capabilities for multiple analytes, which can be critical for controlling blood glucose and detecting possible dangerous events in those with the disease. The device will include continuous insulin monitoring and improve dosing efficacy by providing real-time feedback on the dynamics of insulin pump therapy as well as real-time estimates of a patient’s sensitivity to the insulin.
Dr. Botvinick is a dynamic and enthusiastic scientist and professor in the departments of Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Beckman Laser Institute, and Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced cardiovascular Technology. He has been named the UCI Samueli School of Engineering “Innovator of the Year” and “Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year for several years running. He holds more than 10 patents.
Dr. Botvinick earned his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Nally, Pediatric Endocrinologist, Yale University School of Medicine
|
|
Laura Nally, MD, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 6 years in 1990. She trained to become a pediatric endocrinologist at Stanford University, where she began Looping in 2018. She currently works at Yale University as an Assistant Professor and receives funding from the National Institutes of Health to study metabolic changes that occur on very low carbohydrate diets in youth with T1D.
Below, you will find links to ISPAD guidelines for PreSchool T1Ds, as well as Dr. Nally's paper on Looping in Pregnancy.

Save the Dates!
Please mark your calendars for these exciting events:
Gastric/Digestive Issues in T1 Diabetes Dr. Marina Basina & Dr. Linda Nguyen Stanford University Monday, 18 October 2021, 5pm PDT (12am GMT) https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85406937371 (This event will be recorded)
Though gastrointestinal (GI) complications are common in longstanding diabetes, changes in the gut begin as early as 6 months after diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. And the awareness of these complications is low among physicians. Early identification and appropriate management of GI complications are important for improving both diabetic management and quality of life.
Diabetes Research Connection with Dr. C.C. King Research Update: Differentiation in Different Types of Diabetes (Yup, there are LOTS of “Types” and crossover!) Sunday, 24 October 2021, 5pm PDT (12am GMT) https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81100950992 (This event will be recorded)
Charles (C.C.) King is Board Chair/ President of the Diabetes Research Connection and is a Research Scientist who has helped define the molecular mechanisms of human embryonic stem cell differentiation from pluripotency toward pancreatic endoderm.

Loopdocs Update
The LoopDocs Build Steps from Overview to Updating have been modified for iOS 15 / Xcode 13, which were released on September 20. The updated LoopDocs pages support the new requirement to use Workspace when building. Some of the pages are more streamlined with the consistent use of the Loop and Learn Build-Select script. Lots of new graphics. Feedback is welcome.
As always, we recommend that you update your computer first and then your phone. Please disable the auto-update feature on your looping phone by clicking iPhone Settings/General/Software Update.

Recommended iPhone Settings
If you've updated your iOS it's a good idea to double-check to make sure that Dexcom can write Blood Glucose data to Apple Health. In the Apple Health app, click on Browse in the lower right corner and then search for Blood Glucose. Next, click on Blood Glucose and scroll down to the bottom to access Data Sources & Access. Make sure that Dexcom is listed as a Data Source.
iOS 15 includes a new Scheduled Summary feature. If enabled, this feature will delay notifications from apps. All iOS 15 Loopers should review their iPhone settings to ensure that the Scheduled Summary feature is not enabled for their Dexcom, Loop, Loop Follow, or other diabetes management apps.
For more information about how to configure your phone to optimize Dexcom usage, click the link below.
