| |
Sunday, 27 February 2022 5:00 PM PST (12am GMT) Join us: Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87024790917 or YouTube Loop and Learn channel Dr. Laura Nally is back, this time to talk about T1D, Looping and Exercise! Once again, she is very excited to be presenting to Loop and Learn … and looks forward to a lively Q&A session. As always, the event will be recorded and available for viewing and sharing the following day on our YouTube Loop and Learn channel.
Laura Nally, MD, was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 6 years in 1990. She trained to become a pediatric endocrinologist at Stanford University, where she began Looping in 2018. While at Stanford, she spent 8 days hiking Mt. Whitney (14,505 ft), the tallest peak in the contiguous US, with 9 teens and 2 adults with T1D, and went on to write the first Wilderness Medical Society Clinical Practice Guidelines for Diabetes Management.
She currently works at Yale University as an Assistant Professor and receives funding from the National Institutes of Health to study metabolic changes that occur on very low carbohydrate diets in youth with T1D. She also published the first case report of Looping in Pregnancy (click on the link below).
She spends her free time advocating to improve access and affordability of diabetes medications and supplies, serving as the legislative lead for the Connecticut #insulin4all Chapter of T1International.

Nightscout Check-Up
Does your Nightscout need a check-up? If you can't remember the last time that you gave Nightscout any attention, or if your display doesn't look as nice as some of the screenshots that you see on FB, then it may be time for a Nightscout check-up.
What is Nightscout and do I really need it?
If you're unsure about what Nightscout is, how to use it, and where to get it, then start with the Nightscout Basics link below.
Ready to build Nightscout?
If you're ready to build Nightscout, then click on Build Nightscout.
After you build Nightscout, make sure that you add the features (known as config vars) that are specifically geared toward Loopers. There's one caveat, if you're using Upload Readings (within the Loop app) to get your Dexcom data to Nightscout, then don't add "bridge" to the ENABLE config var. Click on Loop Cofig Vars below.
Are you an existing Nightscout user?
Have you enabled Multiple Factor Authentication for your Heroku account? If you haven't, click on the MFA links below.
If you aren't on Nightscout version 14.2.5, then it's time to update. Click on the Updating Nightscout link below.
While you have Heroku open, be sure to check on your Heroku Stack. Click on Stack below to learn more.
Seem too complicated?
There are a few paid Nightscout services. You can read more about them in the Nightscout Paid Options link.

SugarPixel CGM Display!
| |
When loopers are asked about the biggest benefit of looping, the most common response is "sleep". While most of us are sleeping much better with loop's help, there's always the concern that we'll sleep right through the CGM alarm. Custom Type One, also known within the community as Jon Fawcett, has developed an exciting new CGM display and alert device. SugarPixel is the world’s first dedicated CGM hardware monitor with random tone generation audio alerts, vibration alerts, customizable display options, and native multi-user following.
Use SugarPixel for…
- Hard to wake teens and college students transitioning to independent care.
- Vibration alerts for hearing impaired and and dual audio-vibration alerts for heavy sleepers.
- Displaying BG values from multiple T1D at the same time on a single device.
- A quick glance from across the room or across the yard with the large display.
SugarPixel requires a Nightscout site to read CGM data from. Direct Dexcom integration is in the planning stages and Custom Type One hopes to make it available soon with a software update.

Speaker Series Replays
If you missed any of our recent events, please use the links below to get caught up.
Chris Wilson, CEO of Glucose Genius, spoke to us about the manner in which ISF decreases as blood glucose increases. Of course, as with all T1D tools, this one should be used with caution. If you decide to experiment with dynamic ISF, then please remember that it has only been tested by adults using the oref algorithm (AAPS).
Dr. Trang Ly, CMO of Insulet, discussed Omnipod 5's clearance by the FDA. Click the link below if you missed this exciting community event.
Erik Huneker, CEO and Co-Founder of diabeloop, discussed diabeloop's self-learning algorithm that automates and personalizes the treatment of T1D.
